Mary Isabelle Hoagland Dickey (Maribel) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the age of 89. She was born and raised in the small community of Griggstown near Princeton, NJ. She was a graduate of Princeton High School and Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, David E. Dickey Sr., her dear sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Charles Short, and by many other relatives and friends.
Maribel worked for several years as a registered nurse before choosing to devote herself to the care of her loving children David E. Dickey Jr. (Beverly) of Bedford, NH, Janet McDowell of Roanoke, VA, Beth Jolley (Dennis) of Franklin, TN, and Susan Beam (Jeff) of Zanesville, OH. She and Dave were also the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Maribel was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church USA, most recently of Second Presbyterian Church, Roanoke. She loved the North Carolina beach, Jeopardy, and her succession of dogs, especially Mooch. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at her last residence, the Park Oak Grove, to the extraordinary caregivers of 10 South at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and particularly to her dear friend and physician, Dr. Kipper Nottingham.
Per her wishes, there will be a private service in the memorial garden of First Presbyterian Church, New Bern, NC, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Help Fund, Second Presbyterian Church, 214 Mountain Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24016, to the Colonial Capital Humane Society, PO Box 326, New Bern, NC 28563 or to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements by Oakey’s South Chapel. 540-989-3131.

So sorry for your loss. What a good long life Maribel enjoyed. So many cannot say the same. She was one of those the Bible call especially strong. Ps. 90:10

With sincere condolences to the family. May the God of loyal love comfort your family during this time of need. 2 Corinth 1:3-4 "Who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God. For just as the sufferings for the Christ abound in us, so the comfort we receive through the Christ also abounds."
