Mary E. Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 26, 2025.
Mary E. Jones was born on August 26, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois to parents, Bennie Houston and Velma Houston. In 1955, the family moved to Gary, Indiana for a slower pace to an area called the "Small Farms". Mary E. Jones exchanged time for eternity peacefully on February 20, 2025 (Munster Hospital), joining her beloved parents. She attended Calumet High School in Calumet Township, Indiana. She also went on to study Theology at Moody Bible Institute. She worked at Ameritech for over 30 years and retired as a Directory Marketing Operator. After retirement, her thirst for helping others led to working at Tradewinds where she was able to help those with disabilities.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful servant at Clark Road Baptist Church where she served on the Pastor's Aid Board, Mission Board, New Era District Representative. She had a passion for spreading the word of Jesus Christ. For many years she faithfully worked alongside other parishoners serving at the Men's Prison Ministry. She spent her last great years as a dedicated and devoted member of Love Feast Church of God and Christ. She took great pride serving on the Mother's Board where she showered others with love and encouraging words with every interaction. She loved her church and her church loved her.

Mary E. Jones was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and an amazing friend. She was a devout Christian that woke up daily reading and studying the word of God. She loved the Lord with all her being, and if you knew her and or met her, the first question she asked was, "Baby, are you saved?", "Do you know the Lord?". Nothing pleased her more than spreading the Good News of the Gospel. We knew her as a strong warrior for Christ that was on the battlefield to save souls. She always wanted everyone to know that "I am not afraid of dying, because I know where I am going." She loved her family with all her heart and especially her sister, Alice. They have been inseparable since childhood and that continued through adulthood as they began and ended their day communicating. She was also known for her caring and giving heart that would give you her last dime or the shoes off her feet. Her deep passion for reading books and studying the bible led to writing daily prayers and personalized notes to family and friends. She thrived off of nature and animals. Daily she sent out many inspirational text and meme's. She touched many hearts with her vibrant spirit, laughter and unmatched wit.

Mary E. Jones was married to Harold Jones (who preceded her in eternal rest) on November 28, 1966 and from that union was born four sons and one daughter: Harold Jones, Kenneth Jones (Anita), Kevin Jones (Joanie), Janaetta Jones, and Keith Jones. Her memory will be cherished by her children as well as one sister, Alice Canada (Oscar), eight grandchildren: Steven Jones (Kenyarah}, Miranda Martin-Jones, Ariel Jones, Jasmine Jones, Jeremiah Jones, Elijah Jones, Stephan Jones, and Donavan Jones. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

Although words can not express the depth of our loss. I find comfort in knowing you are no longer enduring the pain you once carried. Your flight with the journey endured here on earth has ended.

Now, you are resting in a place of enternal peace, joy, and everlasting love - surrounded by those who went before you (mom, father, aunts, uncles, and cousins).

You've lived a life of faith serving our Creator with devotion, and truly fulfilled your purpose on earth. As you spread your wings like an angel, may your legacy continue. You will forever be a shinning light. I have no doubt you will continue to share Creator's word from higher ground.

Rest well, dear one, you live now where
there is no more sorrow, no pain, and only GLORY. We will miss you, but will rejoice you're in HIS loving presence. Sending love and prayers to the family.

Mother Mary Jones was such a special Woman of God to myself and my husband. We met her at Love Feast and she was such a joy to be in the presence of. We had many phone conversations and no matter what I was going through she had a way of making you feel better. My husband had been challenged in his body several times and she would see me at church give me a card and say go get him some fruit. Even when she was going through she was still trying to bless us. We are certainly going to miss her. To her dear daughter and family you have our sincerest condolences.

My cousin is the meaning of a beautiful person inside and out. She was such a thoughtful, caring, warm & loving person. She would always call to check on my wellbeing. Our parents instilled God in us & she definitely loved the Lord & wanted others to know of him. During our conversations, she would always make a statement or comment that would bring laughter. We often spoke about our health & she would always say that she's not afraid of death and when it's God's will she's ready. Mary was one of God's angels on earth, a messenger of God's love, hope, comfort and protection. Mary has earned her wings & I'm going to miss our conversations. She'll forever be in my thoughts & just knowing of her, she will be truly missed. Rest In Paradise Mary you're loved by many, but God loves you more.
