Mary Halvorson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2023.
Mary Frances Halvorson, 79, of Peoria, AZ, passed away on June, 29th, 2023, with her daughters by her side. Mary, "Bunnie," was born in Philadelphia, PA to Patrinella and Clarence Holmes. Mary was one of five siblings and graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls in 1962. Mary married her husband of 30 years, Joseph E. Craven, in 1965. Mary and Joe were blessed with two daughters; Kimberly Ann and Pamela. Mary, a loving and devoted Mother, was a homemaker, baker extraordinaire, gardener, seamstress, painter and crafter. Mary entered the work force by designing flowers for a large chain store in Philadelphia which led to her opening her own flower shop, The Daisy Patch. Mary was operating the first female owned business in the community. Following the death of her first husband, Joseph and upon the birth of her first grandchild, Mary made a permanent move to Arizona. She was a devoted, proud and "fun" Grandmother ("GB") to her grandchildren. Mary met and married the love of her life, Denny Halvorson in 2004. They enjoyed a wonderful life in Westbrook Village filled with golf, friends, food and parties. Mary was a volunteer at a local hospital, a member of Westbrook's "Golfing Gourmets" and a beloved member of "The Sister Chicks." Mary is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Coben and Pamela Craven, of Cave Creek and Phoenix, respectively, her Grandchildren, Taylr Darby Coben and Spencer Joseph Coben, numerous nieces and nephews as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews. Mary left us all far too soon, but will be remembered as a loving, protective and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Mary loved nothing more than gathering with her family and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Glendale at 10:30am on Thursday, October 19th, 2023. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at The Links Grill at the Vistas in Westbrook at 11:45am.

We have been friends for over 65 years - grew up around the corner from Bunnie. I lived at 9th & Erie and Bunnie at Percy & Butler and attending Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls. Many many days spent at her home, especially on weekends when her Mom made delicious homemade "banana Bread" We shared so many memories as we grew up, worked together at GEICO and her flower shop, The Daisy Patch, married, had children and talked many hours on the phone. I loved my friend like a Sister and can only say "Till we meet again Bunnie" As always.. Sam
