Mary Fowler Hearne

Shreveport, LA - Mary Fowler Hearne, 94, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, George Marion Hearne III; parents, Sanders Fowler and Mary Colquitt Fowler; and brothers, Sanders Fowler Jr., Walter Lake Fowler and William B. Fowler. She is survived by her sister, Harriet Fowler Destiche; her sons, George Marion Hearne IV (Debbie), Sanders Fowler Hearne (Suzanne), William Lake Hearne (Melanie) and James Hutchinson Hearne (Sue); grandchildren, Laney Hearne Powers, Margaret Hearne Youngers, Sanders Fowler Hearne Jr., Bethard Hearne Smith, Leigh Hearne Hillenmeyer, Ann Elizabeth Hearne, William Lake Hearne Jr., John Marion Hearne and Robert Granville Hearne; and nieces and nephews, Sanders Fowler III, Hallie Fowler Hart, Mary Destiche and James Ross Destiche.

Mary graduated from C.E. Byrd High School. She attended LSU where she was a "Darling of LSU" and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority for 75 years. She later attended Centenary College where she earned her teaching certificate. Mary taught Louisiana History and Civics at Midway Junior High School for many years, and later was a case worker at the Shreveport Mental Health Center until her retirement.

Mary was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and most importantly, a founder and last living member of PMS (Perry Mason Society).

Mary loved iced tea and "baby" Cokes. Her patience with her four boys was extraordinary albeit exhaustible.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Richard Sipes and Dr. Theresa Rinderle who cared for her for many years, Jeff Crane and his staff at The Resource Louisiana, the staff at the Woolf Cottage ("Green Cottage") at The Glen, and a very special thanks and love to Mary's terrestrial angel, Janet M. Brooks.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:45 am, on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Osborn Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 12:00 pm at Forest Park Cemetery with the The Reverend Dr. Wayne Carter, of St. Mark's Cathedral, officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sanders Fowler III, James Ross Destiche, William Lake Hearne Jr., Sanders Fowler Hearne Jr., John Marion Hearne and Robert Granville Hearne.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Cathedral, 908 Rutherford St., Shreveport, LA 71104, or the charity of donor's choice.

I always admired Mary so much. She was a kind, caring, gracious and beautiful lady. It doesn't surprise me that she was a LSU Darling -- she always was a "darling." She and George raised four great sons she was so proud of. I know she will be dearly missed and my heart goes out to the family

I am so sorry for your loss of Mrs. Hearne. As time passes and her presence and voice becomes a fading thought, keep the memory of her alive in your hearts and conversations and may that bring joy and ease your sadness. Colossians 1:11

Dear Hearne Family,
I have so many wonderful memories of Christmas Eve parties at Mary and George's house. She was such a gracious hostess with her sweet smile and a twinkle in her eye. Sending love and hugs to you all during this sad time.

Mrs. Hearne was my Civics teacher at Midway Jr. High. We reconnected when I was in college, I admired her so much, what a Southern Lady she was. I can remember her always saying , 'How Grand". She inspired me so much. If there was ever a Southern Belle, Mrs. Hearne was just that.
I was thinking of her just recently and just didn't reach out. Wish I had.
How fortunate for all her sons to have had such a lady for a Mother. I know you will miss her but you will see her again. I was blessed and privileged to have known her.
