Mary Nelson Hilton, 94, died at home in Venice, Fla., on July 13, 2009.
She was born Nov. 22, 1914 in Junction City, Ore., the only child of Charles and Della Nelson.
She earned an MA in economics from the University of Oregon in 1941. Her long career with the federal government included serving as deputy director of the Women's Bureau, Department of Labor, from 1965 until her retirement in 1981.
Her many interests in Florida included the Venice Friends of the Library.
She is survived by her husband, Howard J. Hilton Jr., whom she married in 1943 and accompanied to Foreign Service posts in Budapest and Bonn, Germany; and three children, Howard Nelson (wife Holly Compton) of Athens, Ga., Mary Alice (husband Terry Wolf) of Sarasota, Fla., and Richard Judd (wife Georgia Lichens) of Medford, Ore.; and five grandchildren.
Donations may be sent to Friends of the Library, 300 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice, FL 34285.
