Mary Ingold Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 1, 2023.
Mary Virginia "Ginny" (Cralley) Ingold passed away after a short illness on March 30, 2023. Ginny was born on August 25, 1928, in Carmi, Illinois. Her father, John W. Cralley, was a High School science teacher and her mother, Mary Delene (Groshong) Cralley, was a home maker. Mary graduated from Carmi High School in 1946 and attended Southern Illinois University, graduating in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in education. She taught for several years before returning to college, this time to the University of Illinois Urbana - Champaign, to study for a master's degree in art. It was at the University of Illinois that she met her future husband, Charles C. Ingold, an architecture student. They got married at the University in June of 1953, and started what would become 62 years of marriage. Little did she know what adventures laid ahead for her, from Lake Forest, Illinois to Thailand, Laos, the Philippine Islands, Singapore, Virginia, Honduras, and finally Green Bay.

Ginny had a fascinating career as a teacher, first in secondary education and then, when her husband's career took them overseas to South East Asia in 1965, in elementary grades in Bangkok, Thailand at Ruamrudee International School and in Vientiane, Laos at the American School of Vientiane. When the family moved to the Philippines, Ginny taught English as a second language to workers at the Ship Repair Facility at the Naval Base in Subic Bay. While in the Philippines, Ginny attended a University of Southern California (USC) satellite program and obtained a master's degree in Systems Management. Ginny then did a career shift from teaching to various positions in Administrative Management for the Federal Government until she retired in 1993. Upon retirement, Ginny and her husband built a home on the beach in Honduras and lived part time there and part time in Green Bay for a number of years.

Ginny had a passion for learning and was a voracious reader her entire life. In her later years, she wore out several Kindles! She loved art and enjoyed painting and sketching with pencils and charcoals. She had a keen interest in American history and was a long time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved adventures and traveling, which she did a lot of, both around the world and throughout the United States. Most of all, she loved her family and being with them. She had a great sense of humor, told wonderful stories about her life and growing up in Carmi, had an infectious laugh, and enjoyed having a glass of wine in the evening when she had visitors. She was the best mom any kid could ask for and we will miss her dearly. "Sparkle sparkle little twink," mom. We love you a bushel and peck.

Ginny is survived by her four children, John Patrick "JP" Ingold, Marita Christine (Mike) Janiga, Charles Churchill "Charley" (Julie) Ingold, and Tina Bridget (Chris) Flood, her eight grandchildren, Amy Lynne (Chris) Hively, John Patrick (Lina) Ingold, Joseph Tyler (Jessica) Janiga, Kevin Churchill (Sarah) Flood, Benjamin Charles Ingold, Samuel John Ingold, Scott Hamilton Flood, and Brian Taylor Flood, and four great-grandchildren, William Arthur Hively, Allison Claire Hively, Walter Nils-John Ingold, and Lou Charles Ingold, her two brothers John (Mary) Cralley and William "Bill" (Maria) Cralley. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Churchill "Charley" Ingold and their infant son Willam Roy Ingold.

We'd like to thank Home Instead, and in particular, Jan, for the assistance and friendship she provided to mom over the past seven years, and the incredible staff at Marla Vista Assisted Living in Green Bay for the wonderful care they gave to Ginny. While she was only a resident there for a short time, she truly enjoyed her stay and she loved her caregivers. We'd also like to thank Unity Hospice for their grace and kindness during this difficult time. Donations in Ginny's memory can be made to Unity Hospice, 2366 Oak Ridge Circle, DePere, WI 54115; or online at unityhospice.org.

I have known Ginny and the Ingold family for fifty years. During my high school and college years, Ginny and Charley opened their house to me with open arms and the exceptional generosity of their time, spirit and patience (and food, beverages, transportation and lodging). Ginny's calming presence and intellect was both a comfort to me and a reminder of the better path to take. I will be forever grateful to Ginny and Charley for the kindness and blessings they bestowed on me.

With love and condolences to Ginny's family.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.

My mom and I are DARs also. My mom passed February 21, 2023 7 days short of her 100th birthday.

God keep you in his embrace during this time of sadness.

With love, Anong Pennington-Ugarte (ASV Alumni)
