Mary Jo Scholer, formerly Mary Jo Fergen, passed away on August 4, 2025, in Monrovia, California.
She was born on June 16, 1940, in Parkston, South Dakota, to Joseph and Marie Fergen, lifetime residents of Parkston. Mary Jo was the youngest of twelve children - and the last surviving among them.
In the mid-1980s, Mary Jo returned to school to study pharmacy technology. She went on to work for many years at Beeman's Pharmacy in San Bernardino, California, where she built a meaningful career and was known for her reliability, attention to detail, and dedication to her work.
Mary Jo is survived by her four children: Lisa Sleyko of Redlands, California; Stephanie Hamersley of Madison, Georgia; Daniel Hamersley of Long Beach, California; and Kristen Verdone of Glendora, California. She also leaves behind three grandsons - Nicholas Sleyko, Dustin Verdone, and Garrett Verdone - and two great-granddaughters, Penelope and Astrid Sleyko.
In accordance with her wishes, a private cremation has been arranged through National Cremation Services in Riverside, California. Her ashes will be spread in her favorite place - Laguna Beach, California. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
