McCOOLE, Md. - Mary Ellen Johnston, 76, of McCoole, MD, died on January 15, 2021 at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
Born on May 17, 1944 in Keyser, WV, she was a daughter of the late Walter Riggleman and Dorothy Foltz. She also was preceded in death by her brothers William, LeRoy, Dick and Denny Riggleman and two sisters Helen Pearce and Betty Bissett.
Mary was a 1962 graduate of Bruce High School. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW McCoole and the McCoole Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she did the cooking for bingo. Mary was employed as a cook at the Hamburger Haven in McCoole and in the Deli Department at Martins. She loved to cook for her family.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Sheridan H. "Bub" Johnston; son, Michael T. Johnston and wife Brenda of McCoole, MD; two grandchildren, Heather & husband Kevin Vaughn of Keyser and Chad Johnston of McCoole; two great-grandchildren, Paradise and Zanyiah Vaughn; Also surviving are three sisters, Patsy Craig of New Berg, OR, Wanda Johnson and Dottie Bowman both of Keyser. 
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, visitation will be private for the family. 
A public graveside service will be conducted at the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, WV on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Those attending are asked to please assemble at the cemetery and are reminded that face masks and the observance of all social distancing guidelines are required. 
The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
