BIG STONE GAP, Va. – Mary Elizabeth (Keesee) Kelly, 88, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Lonesome Pine Hospital.
She was a resident of Big Stone Gap for over 60 years. She was a former cook at Lonesome Pine Country Club for 20 years. Mrs. Kelly was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.G. "Gregg" Kelly Sr.; two sons, James Douglas Kelly and H.G. Kelly Jr.; parents, Joseph Clay Keesee and Cletie (Fleenor) Keesee; a brother, Maynard Keesee; and three sisters, Jo Ann Keesee, Wilma Baker and Gladys Callahan.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce M. Sturgill of Big Stone Gap; three granddaughters, Donita Wood of Cherokee, N.C., Teresa Ratcliffe of Big Stone Gap and Melinda Ennis of Pensacola, Fla.; two grandsons, James Edward Kelly of Cottonwood, Idaho, and Michael Edward Sturgill of Big Stone Gap; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Iona Sims of Bristol Virginia; four brothers, Howard Ralph Keesee of Bristol Virginia, Joseph Clay Keesee Jr. of Big Stone Gap, Harold Keesee of Appalachia, Va., and Charles Keesee of Big Stone Gap; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap. Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel, with Greg Townsend, minister, officiating. Committal services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Glencoe Cemetery. Family and friends will meet 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home to go in procession. Family will serve as pallbearers. E-mail condolences may be sent at [email protected].
