Mary Ruth Laughlin, age 81, of Tuscaloosa, died Nov. 4, 2010 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Eugene McCarley and Bro. Jeremy Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Robert Echols.

Survivors include her husband, Cardell Laughlin; her daughters, Kathy Echols and Linda L. Sample; and her granddaughter, Christy Echols.

Mrs. Laughlin was born on Nov. 19, 1928, in Tallassee, Ala. to Alice and Tom Catchings. She graduated from Tallassee High School in 1946 and later graduated from Birmingham Business College, where she met her husband of 64 years, Cardell. She was a charter member and 50-year member of Alberta Church of God. She was employed by Hancock Fabrics and retired from Bell Auto Parts. She spent much of her life doing volunteer work throughout her church and community. Mary Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be missed by her family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Sweeney, Spanky Stewart, Joe Madison, David Blackmon, John Blackmon, Steve Cook, and Mike Echols.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Alberta Church of God and staff of Hospice of West Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alberta Church of God or Hospice of West Alabama.
