Mary H. (Hogan) Lento, 77, of Shrewsbury, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus after a long illness.

She leaves her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Patrick W. Lento; two sons: William J. Lento and his wife, Lina of W. Barnstable and Darren P. Lento of Worcester; three daughters: Sandra J. Carton of Falmouth, Laurann Black and Wesley Hicks of Waltham and Denise M. Lento and Curtis Claymont of New York City; a sister, Dorothy Cardinale of Marlborough; also survived by three grandchildren: Mykel, Anglea and Cathy, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Hogan.

Mary was born in Boston, and raised in a lovely Brighton neighborhood, daughter of the late Daniel and Laura (Kelly) Hogan. She graduated from Our Lady of Presentation High School in Brighton.

Mary was a staunch advocate for children with special needs and their families. She particularly liked working with autistic children, since her son, Darren is autistic. Mary spent many hours volunteering and collecting for several charities.

She was a faithful member of Saint Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury. Mary also enjoyed spending time with friends and family and traveling to Cape Cod.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mary's family on Friday, September 9, 2011 from 4-7 PM in the Britton Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from the funeral home with her funeral Mass celebrated at 10 AM in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. To leave a message for Mary's family or to view her Book of Memories, please visit

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We have many fond memories of Mary and your family. I am now living in Arizona with my daughter Nancy and her son Jonathan. Wish I could be there to see you all but am waiting to have open heart surgery at the end of the month. God bless you all and rember the good times, Mary sure knew how to laugh!
