A life of love, laughter, faith and service

Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, teacher and servant of her faith.

Born in San Antonio Texas to parents Weldon Porter and Mary Frausto along with three sisters, Madeleine, Gloria and identical twin Mary Sue. Mary Lou was married to James Hodges from March 25, 1955, until his passing, sixty two years later in 2017.

Mary Lou trained to become a Registered Nurse spending most of her career working in Hospital emergency rooms, helping people at their greatest times of need. When the time came to retire from nursing after almost forty years, she wasn't done with helping others. She began an eleven year career teaching English as a second language at Longfellow Elementary School in Mesa Arizona. In addition to her work, Mary Lou was actively involved in the Catholic Church, Marriage Encounters and Carmelites as well as volunteering at Saint Vincent de Paul and Sprinzl-Murphy offering food and clothing to the needy.

Mary Lou loved to laugh, walk, play Chicken foot, a game she loved and has been carried on all the way to her great grandchildren and spend time with family. Her laughter was infectious, her sense of humor was fast, fun and never failed to brighten a room even in her last few conversations in this life.

Mary Lou is survived by her four children, Betty and Husband Tom Diaz, Charles, Anna and her husband Don Hill and Norma Jean and her husband Darin Andsager. Ten Grandchildren, Jason, Salina, Chad, Talisa, Christopher, Ryan, Robert, Justin, Danielle and Kaden. Seventeen great grandchildren and many lifelong friends.
