Mary Elizabeth Luby

Luby, Mary Elizabeth (Young) 88 Oct. 02, 1923 Jan. 03, 2012 Mary Elizabeth (Young) Luby died as a result of Alzheimer's, on Jan. 3. She was born on Oct. 2, 1923, raised in Framingham, Mass. and returned to this area in October 2011 after living in Portland since 1995. She graduated from Framingham High School, Class of 1941. After attending business school for several years, she enlisted in the US Marine Corps and was stationed in Norman, Okla. as an airplane mechanic. Following her honorable discharge, she was employed by Northeast Airlines, as a stewardess until she married in 1948. She was intensely proud of her military service during WW II and her career with Northeast. She loved fashion, music, theater, movies, reading and traveling. She was an avid bridge player until her memory became impaired. While at home with the children, she volunteered for many years at Framingham Union Hospital. She was an active parish member of St. Bridget's Church, Framingham. She leaves five children, Maureen Luby-Huey (Larry), Broken Arrow, Okla., Nancy Luby Arriaza, Beaverton, Mary Beth Vidal, New Bedford, Mass., James Luby (Linda) Goffstown, NH and Kevin Luby (Jane) , Beaverton. She also leaves 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She leaves her sister, Eleanor (Jean) Cunis, Ashland, Mass.; and their brother, Walter (Bud) Young of Seattle; sister-in-law, Miriam Luby Crotty of Swansea, Mass.; and many other family members. She was predeceased by her husband, James W. Luby; their daughter, Christine Luby Bell; and grandson, Conner Luby. She was fun, feisty, intelligent, witty, very social, kind but so very, very stubborn; we loved her dearly. Services will be private and her remains will be buried in the family plot in St. Stephen's Cemetery.
