Mary Marroquin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2023.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Pilar Padilla de Marroquin on Friday, August 4th, 2023, at the age of 71 from cancer. Mary passed away at home, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born and raised in Chepen, Peru by her mother, Maria Cancino, along with her brothers and sisters: Blanca, Gladys, Freddy, Fernando, Juana, Elsa, Juan, Rosa. She met her husband, Florencio Marroquin, during a volleyball tournament and they were married on February 3rd, 1973. They immigrated to the United States in 1981 in search of a better life. When Florencio passed away 29 years ago, Mary became the strong, matriarch of the family that most will remember her by. After many years in fashion merchandising, she turned her love of flowers into a passion and a career in event production and floral arrangements. She worked tirelessly to ensure her family had all of the opportunities that she dreamed of for them.

Mary is survived by her daughter Blanca Marroquin Caputo and her husband Glenn, daughter Ana Yuricek Hewitt and husband Greg, daughter Juanita Duchrow and husband Matt, and daughter Mariela Vargas and husband Anddy. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren Nicolas, Julia, Dillon, Leonardo, Alison, Antonio, Sofia, Olivia, Ava, Alysandra, Mathias and her great-grandson, Mason.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother Maria Cancino, her father Juan Padilla, her brother Fernando Padilla, her husband Florencio Marroquin and her daughter Ana's late husband, Jeremy Yuricek.

Mary enjoyed creating beautiful designs - at home and at work, with flowers and textiles. She showed her love through food and always welcomed friends and family with a delicious meal. She enjoyed sports, most notably tennis and basketball where she watched, followed and could provide expert commentary. But most of all, she loved watching her grandchildren flourish at what they loved. Whether that was on a football field, a wrestling match, a soccer pitch, a tennis court, the diamond, in an automotive garage or in a concert hall, she was so proud of all of them.

Mary was known for her selflessness, strong spirit, independence, unmatched work ethic, dry sense of humor, generosity and her kind heart.

The family will hold a funeral service at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, FL on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023 at 10am.

Dear Ana,

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful, wonderful, amazing mom. I loved hearing your stories about how she raised you and your siblings, and admired how you at such a young age when we worked together years ago, were so mature and intelligent, because of how you were raised. She did an excellent job as a mom. May you and your family feel comforted during this difficult time.

Love Sheila Parham
