Mary Elizabeth "Betty" McDonald

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" McDonald, 91, widow of Bernard P. McDonald, of 101 Division St., South Waverly, Pa., passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

"Betty" as she was known by her family and friends was born in Sayre on Dec. 15, 1918, the daughter of the late Thomas and Theresa Walsh Limerick. She was a graduate of Waverly High School, Waverly, N.Y., and the Elmira Business School in Elmira, N.Y. In early years, Betty was employed by John H. Murray & Son in Sayre and later served as South Waverly Borough Secretary for 22 years until her retirement. Betty was a dedicated communicant of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in South Waverly her entire life. She enjoyed traveling, reading and word search puzzles.

She is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law, Michael G. McDonald and Karen L. McDonald of Lockwood, N.Y.; grandsons, Casey M. McDonald and Colin M. McDonald, both of Lockwood, N.Y.; her sister, Louise Limerick of South Waverly, Pa.; her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas William "Bill" Limerick and Donna Limerick of Sayre, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Bernard P. McDonald, on Jan. 11, 1985; a grandson, Cory M. McDonald in 1986; and a brother, John Limerick.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, Pa.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Main Street, Athens, Pa., with the Rev. Vincent Langan, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment will be at a later date in St. James Cemetery, Waverly, N.Y.
