AGE: 88 •

Mary T. McGuire (88) passed away on August 17, 2016 in Red Bank, NJ. She was born in Bronx, NY to the late James Harkins and Anne Brady who were Irish immigrants from counties Cavan and Leitrim. The family summered in Far Rockaway, NY. Mary worked as an administrative assistant at Metropolitan Life in New York, NY. In 1948, she married Thomas P. McGuire, a neighborhood boy who had just returned from service in World War II. They had their first three children in Far Rockaway, NY. They transferred to Chicago, IL for ten years, where they had their next two children. They moved back east, to Colts Neck, and later to Red Bank where she has lived for 36 years. Mary was a homemaker and co-owner of Celtic Coach Limousine of Red Bank. She loved boating and fishing. Mary was an avid reader and loved to sketch and write poetry. Mary's famous and most telling line was "are we lucky or what!" She was also known for giving her granddaughters advice, most notably, "get a career, be financially independent—so you can run!" Mary was predeceased by her husband Thomas and her sister Anne Kirwan. She is survived by her loving children: Maura A. Kane and her husband Edward of Red Bank, Ann McGuire Geffen of Red Bank, Jean McGuire Dugan of Monmouth Beach, Tara McGuire Sutphin of Red Bank, and Thomas J. McGuire of Naples, FL.

She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren: Colin Kane and his wife Lisa, Sophia Geffen, Jack Dugan, Fiona Dugan, Tomas Dugan, Edward Trzepacz, Sarah Sutphin Broglie and her husband Ed, Jake Sutphin, and Jocelyn Sutphin Allen and her husband Eric. She was also blessed to have six great grandchildren.

A Mass will be held at St. James R. C. Church , 94 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Monday August 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in Mary's memory to VNA of Central New Jersey Hospice, 176 Riverside Ave, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
