Mary McQueen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 22, 2024.

Mary McQueen, age 73, of Graford, Texas, passed away surrounded by her family on 10/18/24. She was born on 7/2/51 in Oakland, California, to Ralph and Margaret Woleben.

Mary met the love of her life, Gene, in December of 1973, and they have been together ever since. Together they accomplished many of their lifelong goals, eventually retiring together at Possum Kingdom Lake. Mary was a long-time employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone, longest time as a manager of directory assistance and later as a HR manager. Her ability to listen and her genuine concern for people made her special to many. Her best role was as a wife and a mom. Her family was the most important thing to her. She was always there when they needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. She touched the lives of every person she came across with her kindness, generosity, and general love for life. She was also an avid supporter of Texas Longhorn Women's Volleyball.

She is survived by her husband Gene McQueen, her son David McQueen, her daughter Diane McQueen, her son-in-law Yousef Gonzalez, her sister Susie Smith, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Margaret Woleben, brother Lee Woleben, and sister Cathy Duncan.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ovarian Cancer Research. The family would like to thank our friends and family for their support during this difficult time.

I will always remember Mary for her generosity, contagious laugh, her loyalty, strength, speed (she loved to drive fast), smile, and funny stories. She remembered everyone. She was a person who loved nature and especially the deer that showed up everyday. She above everything loved her family. I can still hear her voice. She always found positive things to say about people. I never forgot the rules at dinner "if you didn't cook then you help with dishes". I admired her emotional strength and strong will. I think it's funny that for my whole childhood I thought she was my aunt lol! She felt so much more than just a cousin. I love you Mary! Miss you

She was the best bonus mom I could ask for. Soren sure did love showing Grandma Mary her art work also. Hopefully I'm good enough while I'm on this earth to end up where she is so I can see her again because I'm sure going to miss her.
