Auntie Mary, I know you hear me talking to you like you are right here next to me. Hopefully you hear me. Odd writing this and I have your Vikings on TV. We buy everything in Purple "Auntie Mary´s color". I miss you like crazy. I still have a hard time believing that you are not here, especially on Christmas. I look to see if you´re coming. I know that you´re there in spirit.
What can I say?!! You are so loved and so missed.
I love you!

Once again, this popped up in my email, so I am going to wish Mary a very Happy New Years Eve! Wish you were here with me to celebrate it. 2022 will hopefully be better than Covid 2020 and 2021. Send down those angels to help us get rid of it! Love you Mary. Renee

Dear Mary - Today is my 57th birthday and I miss you more than ever today. You always had a special card for me with your incredibly perfect handwriting and always with a personal and genuine message from your heart. We used to complain about getting older and the "joys" of aging - if only we could be sitting over coffee and talking together now. . . . .I would give anything to have those conversations back, only now we would cherish growing older together, something we are not able to do because you are gone from my life. Again, I wish you peace and freedom of pain and I do feel you looking down at me today with a smile and a birthday hug.

You are with me forever in my heart, Mary. I will love you always. . . . .

Mary...my dear friend and college roomate for not only Sophomore year, but also my Junior year in Sherburn Hall at SCSU. It's that connection that brings me to this page to tell you how much I'll miss you, your Birthday and Christmas wishes despite the distance between us... and your quiet resilience to face life's challenges, and your calling to be the very best Special Ed. teacher I know. You have touched many lives and you will be rememebered by those children who looked to you for guidance & love, while empowering them with education. Here's a picture of the last time I saw you and Nancy in 2010. I even tried to convince you to use it for your Facebook profile. You never did. lol. I didn't get to meet Jim, nor see a picture of him...but I'll forgive you for that! So many stories, so much laughter, so many memories of our days @ SCSU, but now I'll have to wait and bring the photo albums to heaven when I see you next! Love you Mary... Your going to be missed and I'm going to miss you more... Renee

I remeber that your eyes were blue, I wish it had purple in it since I saw you wear that most offten. Hope you like it.

You were my favorite teacher. When Mr. Tomas told us you passed, I honestly didn't want to believe that. After it sunk in I had to do all I could not to cry. I loved all you did for me and I will never forget it. Your death might be one of the hardest I may go through in my young life and I hope you are happy where ever you are. I'm sorry if at times I may have been a bad student or I was sarcastic, but I really do love you. You were the only teacher I could be myself with. I promise I'll try not to fail any classes and I'll do my best for you. Please Rest In Peace and I'll will try my best not to cry anymore. I love you and I will never forget you and your amazing teaching.

I had the great pleasure of working with Mary for the last 7 years. We shared many things over the years, but this last year and a half have meant alot to me. I lost my parents 8 years ago, within 3 months of each other. Mary and her family had a similar happening with her parents passing away within a very short while of each other. We both had a great love for our parents and family and she was always a great support to me when memories surfaced and emotions were high. In the classroom she was a quiet strengh that disiplined with a soft voice and respect to the students. I was always amazed at how she was able to keep her cool and in the end was able to get the desired behavior without yelling and confrontations. Thank you Mary for all your support and for always being there for me.

I had the priveledge of working with Mary over the last eight years. Mary was a joy to work with always upbeat and never complained. So I was quite suprised by the suddenness of her illness and passing. I will always remember mary for her gentle kindness, willingness to serve her students and warm smile. I will miss working with her very much and enjoy remembering her as I go about my work day with our colleagues and studnets.

Ms Meiklejohn was an important person in the short life of my son, Rob Hallman, at Osseo Jr High. She showed him unwavering patience and loyalty, and we were so fortunate to have had her in our lives. They had a special bond, for which I was really grateful. Mary was willing and able to see beyond the outward persona, and to see Rob for the person he really was. She was an extra-special educator. Mary was the teacher/friend that all other educators should strive to be. She was one of the few that look at their students as "people", and not merely names on an attendance roster.
I was always happy to have a parent/teacher conference with Mary, because she always had something positive to say. She was always smiling, always upbeat.
She was also a great comfort to my family when Rob died. She wrote us two very warm and wonderful letters, and she was a very welcome "guest" at his funeral.
Mary was a wonderful, wonderful human being. I will always remember her with a smile on my face.
I hope everyone else will too.

I was a student of hers from 2007-2010 at Osseo Jr. High, She was a good friend of mine, she taught me alot, and helped me improve my confidence, and perserverance. I never had a teacher like her for years. She was the best one out of all the teachers I had. I'll always remember her deeply when she taught me throughout the Junior High years.
When I go to church, I'll pray for her always. ( I'm Catholic too)
I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I have seen Aunt Mary as an amazing selfless woman. Who loved her family very much. Even though her life ended very sudden those who loved her can be reassured that she is at peace and will not suffer as she is with her Mom and Dad now. Sarah i believe she sent the sign the other night as her way of saying she is ok now and you will be to. I found this picture and thought it is a great memory you will always have as she was honored to be a part of your special day.

Mary was a friend of a lifetime. We met in college and lived together in Cosmos during our first of teaching. Since then Mary has remained very much a part of my life. We were together several times a year, we travelled together, shopped together, laughed and cried together and simply loved being together. Mary was a gracious, thoughtful and loving person. Her family and Jim came first but her friends were a very close second. Yesterday I found a wonderful letter she had written to me shortly after her dad's death. What a bittersweet find. but one that I will treasure forever as I will her friendship. I miss you so much Mary.

I may not have known you the longest but I was able to see the admiration, love and compassion for family and friends in your eyes. If only for a short time, I am honored to have met such a wonderful woman who charished every day for every reason. I can only hope that my family and I can emulate such a life. You were, are and always will be loved.

I had the great opportunity to work with Mary for six years at Osseo Junior High School. Mary was a gentle and caring individual. She was committed to her parents and students and found it difficult to take time for herself. In the years that I worked with Mary she had privately faced many challenges, but always addressed them with optimism. I will miss her positivity and our many conversations. She truly exemplifies the great impact that an individual can have on others. Mary's legacy will live on.

My Aunt/Godmama,
This was such a life change for us, one day your here next gone. This is so hard, I saw you on Monday, you smiled, even though you were so tired. I got you to laugh, but then you needed to sleep. i am so glad that I got that one last chance to hug, kiss, and hold your hand. Because what happened the next day shattered us forever. You were my soft spoken, joyful Aunt. I am so lucky that Josh got to have such an amazing Great Aunt. We love you so much, always have and always will.

I taught with Mary in the Cosmos School system for 1 year. We had a great friendship. Every birthday and Christmas since she left Cosmos, she has sent my husband and I cards. She was a dear person and I was sad to hear about her death. Carol Adams

While I taught at Osseo Jr. High, Mary would have students in my classroom. She was so caring and kind to everyone. Mary always had a smile on her face and after I left OJH and would return to school, she would always stop to say HI. Mary will definitely be missed by so many people. It is of great sadness that she is gone.

I also worked with Mary at Osseo Junior High from 1989-1999. She and I shared many special times together from Wednesday night dinners followed by episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 to long walks near Parker's Lake to gifts of chocolate covered mint cookies to the fun pictures and sayings of Mary Engelbreit (Queen for a Day) to teaching a collaborative English class together for those nine years, Mary has left a lasting impact on me, my family, and the many students and staff whose lives she touched so deeply. I pray for God's healing hands on her sister Sue and her family and her dear friend Jim. God bless you all, and Mary, may you rest in peace in our Saviour's hands.

I have known Mary since college, as we were both in Special Education and lived on the same dorm floor and had some great times. We had a wonderful trip to Europe in the summer of 1984. We have kept in contact through our birthday and Christmas letters. It is with great sadness that I write this letter as Mary was a very special person who will be greatly missed. My sympathy to Mary's family and friends.

I had the opportunity to work with Mary for many years at Osseo Junior High. One of my last years as a classroom teacher Mary was assigned to my room to be with a number of her case load students. She was a great team player and worked well with a wide variety of students. She had a big heart for special needs kids-- she will be missed!

I knew Mary for the past 25 years, first meeting her when we worked together at Osseo Junior High School from 1985-l988 and then just being friends over the years while meeting for coffee or lunch, sharing stories and being a part of each other's lives through the ups and downs of daily life. Mary was truly one of a kind - mostly because she was truly a good person - no hidden agendas, no game playing, and always having a kind word or gesture when I or others needed it. She had a quiet and gentle manner about her, yet I found her to be very strong and determined at the same time. Whether it was giving the best to her students, caring for her parents or being a good friend to me, she always gave more than 100%. She was one of the best people I have known in my life and there will be a void in my life that will not be filled because she is gone.
Mary - I wish you peace, my dear friend, and I will never forget you and how you mattered in my life. I feel truly blessed to have been your friend.

Love,

I worked at Osseo Junior High for 9 years, and Mary always treated me with a great amount of respect and kindness. I have a very special gift she gave me a few years ago, and as precious as it was then, it is even more so now. She was one of the best - not just teacher, case manager, coworker, but a true, humble, honest friend. To say she will be missed is not saying enough. There is now a void in so many lives.
God be with you, Mary, and with us who stay behind.

Mary was one of the best teachers in the osseo school systems special education program and I always looked forward to seeing her at school everyday and working with her...
Yah some people will say one teacher had a huge impact on there life, although for me going to school in the osseo school system from 1985-1998 I had many awesome teachers who really impacted my life in a positive way and Mary was definitely one of them...
Well Mary wasn't only a special ed teacher she was also a very positive influence and mentor in many students live...
She put up with allot of nonsense from myself and many of the pain way out of control kids on her case load, and she never really had a negative thing to say about us students or having to work with us..
I myself can honestly say that osseo school system and the world just lost one of the most caring and most involved teachers ever...
This jobs wasn't just about the paycheck for her you could see that everyday with the way she treated us students...
Mary wasn't just a teacher she was a friend and a mentor to many students and I will never forget her for be such a awesome and caring teacher-friend and mentor...

You left us so suddenly and I'm going to miss you so much Mary. You were one of a kind....always kind and patient. In your job, you were really there for your kids and the news will be hard on them as well. It hurts me that you were looking forward to the retirement years, but I guess you are with your parents now.
