Mary Messerle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 3, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Patricia Messerle, who departed this world on January 24, 2025, at the age of 77. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and champion of mental health and cherished by all who knew her.

Known as Pat, she was born on May 7, 1947, in Troy, NY, to Virginia and Frank Quinn. She grew up primarily in Latham, NY, where she attended Shaker High School. After careers in Dental Hygiene and as a Caterer, she attended the University of Albany (NY) earning her bachelor's degree in psychology. After relocating to Vermont, she continued her education obtaining her master's degree from St. Michaels (VT) College while beginning her career as a Psychologist, where her true passion began. Pat was known for her unwavering dedication to those in need of mental health support and the kindness and compassion she extended to everyone around her.

She married Christian (Cris) Messerle on July 3, 1965, and together they built a life filled with love and happiness. They were blessed with 2 children: Christian Todd Messerle and Kevin Michael Messerle, along with 2 grandsons, Matthew Christian Messerle and Zachary Quinn Messerle who brought immense joy and pride to Pat's life.

Pat's career was marked by numerous accomplishments. She found great joy as a Neuropsychologist beginning at the Counseling Service of Addison County (VT) before expanding her impact to the Addison County (VT) and South Burlington (VT) School Districts, where her teachings of Mindfulness helped countless students unlock their confidence and self-esteem to allow those children to realize their dreams. Pat was highly respected in her field; her contributions were far-reaching, significant and enduring, including as a co-author on the collaboration of the book Mindfulness that school districts today employ so that children can continue to grow their skills and confidence and leaving a lasting impact on those she worked with.

In addition to her professional achievements, Pat was passionate about volunteering, teaching, hiking, skiing, traveling, and cooking/baking. Her grandsons were her greatest joys and she loved caring for and entertaining them and above all making them laugh. Pat was dedicated to give of herself to whoever was in need and always put others before herself. If you were in need, Pat was the first one to say how can I help.

Beyond her professional and community endeavors, Pat was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with Cris, her boys and their loved ones, her grandchildren and their lifelong friends of the "Breakfast Club", often organizing gatherings and creating beautiful memories that will be cherished forever. Pat's warmth, compassion, generosity, and sense of humor made her a beloved figure in the lives of many.

She is survived by her husband, Christian (Cris) Messerle, sons, Christian Todd Messerle and his partner Emily Harting, Kevin Michael Messerle and his wife Cindy (Pawelski) Messerle, Grandchildren Matthew Christian Messerle and Zachary Quinn Messerle, and her brother Tim Quinn and his wife Susie and her sister Maureen DelSignore. She is pre-deceased by her parents Virginia and Frank Quinn, and her brothers Michael Quinn and Mark Quinn. Pat's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her and those that she gave so much hope to as a shining light forever.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held privately with the immediate family. At a date and location in the future, Family and friends will be invited to gather and share their memories. Pat, like her parents, were fond of St. Jude's Hospital for Children, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital for Children in Pat's memory.

We will always remember Pat, Mom, Patty, Tricha, Grandma for her radiant smile, unwavering kindness, devotion to those in need and the love she brought into our lives. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire us all.

Rest in peace, dear Mary Patricia! You will forever be in our hearts!

My sister Patricia was an amazing woman. She was smart, kind, caring, beautiful. She was a wonderful sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Just having known her you were a better person. After our Mom passed my younger brother Mark was only 15 and I was 23. Patricia took over being like a second Mom to us. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. You are at peace now Patricia. I will always love you.

I grew up with the Quinn family in Latham. Patricia was a bit older than I but we all had so much fun hanging at their home! The house will filled with love and laughter!! I visited with her and Chris in Queensbury. Patricia was a beautiful person inside and out. She will be missed. Prayers up for her and the family.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are of Aunt Patricia. She always seemed so cool to me and SO very smart. She and Chris picked me up from camp and took care of me when I was going through one of my many attitude adjustments and I remember feeling really safe and seen, which to a kid means a lot. I am sending you all so much love and hoping your hearts heal from the loss of such a person. She will be greatly missed until we meet again. Xx

She was always so nice to us when we were younger. I can remember thousands of times Pat feeding us at her house or her restaurant. She was a great lady.
