Mary PAWLUK Obituary
Went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 17, 2014, with her family at her side, at the Rosthern Mennonite Nursing Home at the age of 85 years. Mary was born December 11, 1928 to Walter and Anne Kisilewich. She married Nicholas Pawluk on May 25, 1951. Together they raised four children. Mary and Nick worked together to establish themselves in the farming community. In the fall of 1968, Mary started working at the Lakeview Pioneer Lodge as a care aide. Despite coming off a night shift, when it came to seeding or harvest, Mary could always be found right beside Nick, helping with daily chores or driving truck or combine. She would catch a few hours of sleep and then it was back to the lodge for another night shift. Mary was widowed in 1978, yet she continued to farm with the help of her three sons and still continued to work at the lodge. In 1988, Mary retired from the nursing home, yet continued to live on the farm and helped with the operation wherever she could. Her greatest thrill was driving the combine. Mary is survived by her children: Darleen (Darryl) Callfas of Rosthern, SK, Donald (Bea) of Saskatoon, SK, Larry (Shirley) of Saskatoon, SK, and Lawrence of Wakaw, SK; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, her sisters: Jean Kisilevich and Helen Maffenbeier both of Wakaw, SK, her brother John Kisilewich of Wakaw, SK, as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Nick and her brother Alvin Kisilewich. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the cardiologists and nurses at the Royal University Hospital, as well as the doctors and nurses at the Rosthern Hospital and the staff at the Mennonite Nursing Home. The Prayer Vigil will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. and the Divine Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Mykola Romanets officiating. Both Services will be held at the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Wakaw. Interment will follow in the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. In my earlier post where the question marks appear I had written Auntie Mary in the Ukrainian alphabet so phonetically speaking I always called Mary Chochya Mariya with great affection.

Dear Darlene, Don, Larry, Lawrence and your families, We were saddened for you to learn of the passing of your very special mom. Aunty Mary was one of our favorite relatives. She always shared a beautiful smile, hugs and made genuine inquiries about our lives before sharing her own latest news. From the time our BJ was born aunty attended his annual birthdays at our farm when she could and always took time to show a true interest in his studies, world travels, accomplishments and awards as he grew to adulthood. Their conversations about farming and how modern life was changing so rapidly were mutually inspiring. We will always remember aunties star role in the country band concert in Wakaw as she played guitar smiling so calmly and enjoying each and every note as we all clapped and cheered loudly. Aunties attentive style of truly listening and caring in conversation was so rare and she always reacted with positive thoughts, hope and best wishes. Her hands and eyes spoke volumes of a woman who had experienced so much in her life and yet who was so content and grateful for everything each time we connected.
Your mom held your hands, loved, supported and encouraged each of you through the years, and now you will hold her spirit in your hearts as you carry on the wonderful values and beliefs with which she raised each of you with pride. She will always be part of your thoughts and actions daily and while you will miss her physical presence she will walk spiritually with each of you all the days of your lives until you meet again. You will have constant reflections of moments from your lives together that now will become cherished memories forever. We just know that along with your dad and others who went before your mom, our precious son, BJ, who passed only two months ago, is exchanging huge smiles and welcoming embraces with your mom as he greets her in heaven. You now have another special angel watching over each of you! May your moms memory be eternal as she rests in peace in the arms of God having completed a wonderful life that we too, were blessed to have been a small part of.
