Mary Phillips Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2025.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and awesome friend, Mary Hammond Phillips (Cindy), 85, of Loudon, Tennessee, passed away on September 17th, 2025, following a battle with cancer.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 6th at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Parish - Chapel of the Holy Innocents, located at 600 North Adelaide Street in Fenton, Michigan. Father Robert Copeland, Pastor, will be officiating. A visitation will begin at 10 am at the Chapel. A private burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Waterford, Michigan at a later date.

Cindy was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on July 20th, 1940. She graduated from Shrine High School and earned a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Detroit. Cindy met her future husband of 55 years, Tom, in 1956 and they dated throughout high school and college. After marrying, Cindy and Tom lived in Cincinnati, Ohio and Royal Oak, Michigan, ultimately settling near Rochester, Michigan where together they raised their four children, Chris, Andy, Tim, and Matt. Always a giver, once her own children were well on their way in school, Cindy decided to resume her passion for teaching, ultimately starting a tutoring business for students with learning differences. She helped many young lives grow, learn, and become more confident, and helped their parents breathe a little easier.

Along the way, Cindy and Tom developed a passion for travel, enjoying annual family camping trips to northern Michigan, the beaches of South Carolina, and many places in between, making wonderful friendships along the way.

When the opportunity for retirement came, Cindy and Tom jumped at the chance to continue the fun in a warmer climate, moving to the Knoxville, Tennessee area. There they made many wonderful friends, enjoyed very active social lives, and set out on adventures far and wide in their motorhome. After Tom's passing, Cindy, in keeping with her nature, "continued the crazy", especially with several dear friends who shared a special camaraderie and a similar passion for life.

Cindy will be sorely missed by all, but it will be the joy, laughter, stories, and fun times that will be remembered most, retold, and relived over and over.

Cindy is survived by her children, Christina (Brian) Mack, Andrew (Donna) Phillips, Timothy Phillips, and Matthew (Leah) Phillips, grandchildren Zachary (Meredith), John, Grace, Lauren, Jacob, and Adam, great-grandchildren Watson and Palmer, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Cindy is preceded into death by her husband, Thomas, parents, Harold and Mary, her siblings, James, Catherine, and David.

Special thanks to the clergy and staff at St John the Evangelist Catholic Parish, many friends and family, the "big-hearted" staff at Sacred Ground Hospice House, and Click Funeral Home for their kindness and generosity.
