Mary Roberts Obituary
NEW ELLENTON - Mary Lee Tarbox Roberts departed this life May 28, 2018 at her residence surrounded by members of her family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Donald Stuart Tarbox and Juanita Lamb Tarbox and three brothers, John Edward Tarbox, Earnest Merrold Tarbox, and Robert Earl Tarbox. She is survived by her husband, Joe Roberts; three children, Rebecca (Becky) Sherman, J. Stuart Roberts, and Anna Marie Shoemaker; six grandchildren, David Sherman, Amy Buckley, Jacob Roberts, Erin Roberts, Jason Shumaker, and Allison Shumaker; two great-grandchildren, Sherman and Graelyn Buckley; a brother, David Tarbox; and two sisters, Polly Alexander and Claudia Tisdale.
Mary and Joe moved into the area after getting married. Mary was an avid animal lover and ran a small animal sanctuary out of her home. She was a long standing member of St. Paul UMC in New Ellenton where she was a member of the Louise Best Circle. Additionally, she worked for many years with the Aiken Council on Aging.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul UMC, 600 Main St., New Ellenton, SC 29809.
The Historic George Funeral Home, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803.649.6234), has charge of arrangements.
