Mary Alice Scoboria, 96, died March 4, 2016 at her home in Englewood, Florida. She was born Mary Alice Ivory on January 29, 1920 in Altoona, PA. She attended Mount Carmel High School in Altoona and earned her nursing degree at Altoona Hospital. In 1943, she enlisted in the Army Air Corp, serving as a surgical nurse at Mitchell Field on Long Island, New York and Seymour Johnson Field in North Carolina. On June 29, 1945, 1st Lt. Mary Alice Ivory and B-24 Navigator 1st Lt. Leon Paul Scoboria were married in uniform in Goldsboro, NC. As a civilian after the war Mary Alice worked as a surgical nurse, an emergency room supervisor, and a superintendent of nurses at Doctors Hospital in Freeport, NY, all while raising two children. In 1980, Leon and Mary Alice began their retirement in Englewood, Florida, where Mary Alice enjoyed their friends, family, and grandchildren, and her visits to and from her family in Altoona. She died peacefully at home on March 4, 2016.
Mary Alice is survived by her husband of 71 years, Leon Paul Scoboria of Englewood; by her children, Mary Akashah of Englewood and Leon Foster (Margaret) Scoboria of Palm City, Florida; by her grandson, Matthew (Angelique) Scoboria of Palm City; by her great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Alice Scoboria, of Palm City; by her step-grandchildren, Steven Marengio and Frances(Christopher) Marengio Baehman of Palm City; by her step-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Bradley, and Luke Baehman of Palm City; by her sister, Adaline Ivory Cassarly (Gordon) of Altoona, PA; by her brother Leo (Sandra) Ivory of Ashville, PA; by her grandson-in-law, Nicholas Marshall Cooper of Brisbane, Australia, and her granddaughter-in-law, Lorri McDaniels of Venice, FL; and by numerous loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Edmund Ivory and his wife, Grace, of Altoona, and by her grandchildren Mey Akashah Cooper of Boston, MA, and Omar Akashah of Venice, Florida. A funeral mass will be held for Mary Alice at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 15, at St. Raphael's Church in Englewood. Following the mass, interment with military honors will take place at 12:30 P.M. at Sarasota Memorial National Cemetery on Clark Road in Sarasota. Arrangements by Farley Funeral Home in Venice, FL.
