Mary Staley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2010.
Mary Jane Staley, age 86, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away August 3, 2010, at home. She was born April 2, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., the eighth child of nine children of Charles and Thusnelda Quackenbush. On Jan. 27, 1945, she married Marvin Wilburn Staley of Kansas City. Marvin passed away in October 2008. Surviving are one son, Dr. Michael J. Staley and wife Jennifer of Overland Park; grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica and Samantha Staley; daughter, Miss Deborah Staley of Kansas City; daughter, Mrs. Sheryl Staley Modes and husband Richard of Hillsdale, Kan.; grandson, Nicholas Modes; sister, Betty Lou Basgall of Sacramento and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mary lived her entire life in the Kansas City area. She was well known for her sweetness, vivaciousness and beauty. During World War II, she constantly wrote to servicemen to boost their spirits. Her favorite pastime was to have coffee with her friends at McDonald's. Just going out to see family and friends was her most favorite thing in the world. She enjoyed bowling with her husband throughout their lives. She was a faithful member of Church of the Holy Cross in Overland Park and formerly participated in Perpetual Adoration. Mary lived at Freedom Pointe the past two years. She just loved her apartment there. The wonderful staff really kept her going after losing her husband. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, KS 66212. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at McGilley & Hoge Chapel, with Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Church of the Holy Cross. Interment to follow at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery, Kansas City. Condolences at mcgilleyhogememorialchapel.com. McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Dr, Overland Park, KS 66204, 913-642-3565

We were sorry that we were traveling and unable to attend your mothers services.
She was a wonderful person and she never knew a stranger. She and Marvin were always smiling when we would stop by the old house or see them at Bob Evans or McDonalds. We said a Rosery for her on the day we found out she had gone home and will keep her and Marvin in our prayers at Mass. I told Sheryl that there is a special place in Heaven for your sweet mother, as she was really wonderful!!

God bless you Deborah,Mike,Sheryl and your families. The Maddocks

Deborah, Mike and Sheryl,
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
We all have such wonderful memories of your Mom.
Many fond memories of spending every Sunday and all the holidays as we were all growing up at grandma and grandpa's with your family and all of our cousins and aunts and uncles. Anytime I run across old photos, it always brings back a lot of memories. I last spoke with her this past year when I was at Mom and Dad's for one of their calls. She will live forever in all of our hearts. God Bless.
