Charles "Ned" Straway

WAGENER, S.C. -- Charles "Ned" Straway, 56, of Wagener, S.C., died Saturday, April 21, 2018, at home.

Born in Newton and raised in Stillwater, Ned moved to Wagener 21/2 years ago. He was employed by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, working in highway maintenance. Ned was a very proud grandfather. He enjoyed woodworking and NASCAR but he was most passionate about helping hurting people as a Celebrate Recovery ministry leader. He was a former member of Baleville Congregational Church.

The son of the late Charles "Charlie" and Nancy (Mearsures) Straway, Ned was also predeceased by his son, Dayton Charles Straway, on Oct. 22, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Anita (Panarioux) Straway; his daughter, Chelsea; his grandson, Brayden Charles; "Grandma" Joyce Straway; his sister, Cathy Gomez and husband, Ismael; his niece, Sarah; his nephew, Cameron; and his great-nephew, Sebastian.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Baleville Congregational Church in Hampton. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-McCracken Funeral Home,
