Mary E. Welland

Mary E. Welland, 88, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Homeland Center where she was a resident since September 11, 2016. She was the widow of Robert C. Welland who was her next door neighbor growing up. Mary went to nursing school while Robert joined the Air Force. They met again in the 1940's and were married July 22, 1952. He predeceased her in 2006 after 54 years of marriage.
Born October 7, 1928, in Aurora, IL, Mary was daughter of the late Edmund and Louise (Reuland) Binder.
She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church where she was a Eucharistic minister and member of the Legion of Mary. She said prayers and the rosary at Ecumenical Center and the Jewish Home and crafted cord rosaries.
Mary was a registered nurse at the former Villa Teresa Nursing Home for several years and had also worked with Hospice of Central PA.
She was cared for by ComForcare from 2009-2016 and been in hospice care at her home since April 2015.
Surviving are her son, Michael J. Welland of NC and her daughter, Catherine M. Welland of Harrisburg. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by 2 brothers, Clarence and James Binder.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 7, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6150 Allentown Boulevard, Harrisburg, PA 17112 with the Rev. Richard J. Mowery officiating. Viewing will be from 10-11:00 a.m. at the Church. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery will follow the Mass.
