HIGH POINT — Mary Adelaide (Addie) Wendler, 95, died on Monday, November 5, 2007 at the Presbyterian Home in High Point, where she had been a resident for the past five years.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 7, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church by Father John J. Kelly O.S.F.S. Interment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Mary was born November 23, 1911, in Winona Minnesota, the daughter of Otto and Estelle (Brady) Hermanson. She was a graduate of River Falls State College. Addie moved to High Point, North Carolina in 1947, when her husband, Vern was transferred by Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Company.

She joined the staff of the High Point Enterprise, as a writer in 1954 and in 1956 became the women's editor, a position that she held for more than two decades. While serving in that position, Mrs. Wendler received a number of public recognitions. Foremost, was her induction into the Writers Hall of Fame, created by the Southern Furniture Market Center to recognize excellence in reporting of home furnishings. She won numerous awards from the N. C. Press Women's Association on whose board of directors she served. She was a charter member of the National Home Fashions League, a member of the 20th Century Study Club and Book League and served on the boards of the Salvation Army and the High Point chapter of the N. C. Symphony.

Mrs. Wendler was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon (Vern) Wendler; her daughter, Sheila Wendler Bennett and her brother, Roger J. Hermanson.

Survivors include her daughter, Julie W. Dameron of Greensboro; and son, Jon Timothy Wendler of Dayton, Ohio; grandsons, Charles E. Dameron, IV and wife, Nancy of High Point, Matthew Dameron and wife, Rachel of Greensboro, John H. Dameron and wife, Ramona of Raleigh, William C. Dameron and his wife, Elizabeth of Roanoke Virginia; granddaughter, Emily Wendler of Cincinnati, Ohio; and seven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9 until 10 a.m. before the service in the church narthex.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Piedmont for their compassionate and understanding care and the Presbyterian Home of High Point for their willingness to answer the needs of the family and caring about Addie. A special thanks to Tony Chapman and Lisa Waite of the Presbyterian who listened deeply.
