Orient - Mary Ann Witte, 61, of Orient passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre of breast cancer. Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at St. Joseph's Church in Orient, S.D. Burial, under the direction of Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton, will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Orient, S.D. A time for fellowship and a luncheon will follow the burial. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at St. Joseph's Church in Orient. Mary Ann Witte, the daughter of Lambert and Katherine (DeVoss) Vopat was born July 27, 1944. Mary Ann married Harold Witte Jr. on March 5, 1962. To this union, six children were born. Mary Ann enjoyed being a farm wife and spent countless hours in her vegetable garden. She looked forward to each camping and fishing trip. She was an avid fisher and received Proud Angler status in South Dakota. Mary Ann was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for many years and held the office of treasurer in St. Joseph's Alter Society and the Orient Community Club for numerous years. She was a dedicated employee of Faulkton Healthcare for several years until her battle with breast cancer caused an early retirement. Mary Ann was known for her ability to fix or make almost anything. Children, grandchildren, family, and friends will have special memories each time they use the many afghans, quilts, personalized towels, and other craft projects that Mary Ann created out of love for each of them. Several in the community will miss her ability to mend even those items beyond repair. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father Lambert, brother Roger, daughter Mary Ann, grandson Kyle James, nephews Chip Lindbloom and Chuck Witte, nieces Deann Witte and Julie VanWell and brother-in-law, Bob Witte. Her memory lives on with her husband, Harold of Orient; children Lori (Steve) Walker of Pierre, S.D., Brenda (Larry) Tebben of Redfield, S.D., Vickie (Sean) Horan of Ellsworth AFB, S.D., Gerald (Melody) Witte of Winner, S.D., and Duke (Kim) Witte of Aberdeen, S.D. She is also survived by her mother, Katherine Vopat of Faulkton, S.D.; three sisters, Barb (Dennis) Lindbloom of Pierre, S.D., Sandy (Pat) McGrath of Faulkton, S.D., and Ellen (Jim) Selting of Eau Claire, Wis.; her in-laws, Ray (Barb) Witte of Ortley, S.D., Ken (Hazel) Witte of Huron, S.D., Beth Witte of Seneca, S.D., Bill (Sherry) Witte of Gettysburg, S.D., Don (Judy) Witte of Aberdeen, S.D., Darlene (Ken) VanWell of Hoven, S.D., Terry (Carol) Witte of Orient, S.D.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson, Eric James of Ramstein, Germany, Kristi James and son Zackery of Pierre, S.D., Michelle James, Samantha and Alex Walker of Pierre, S.D., Jacob, Julie, and Jamie Tebben of Redfield, S.D., Kelley and Elizabeth Horan of Ellsworth AFB, S.D., Lincoln and Madison Witte of Winner, S.D. and Schyler, Arionne, and Madalynn of Aberdeen, S.D. Casket bearers will be Lenny Witte, Paul Witte, Jim McGrath, Chad Lindbloom, Brian VanWell, and Jeff Witte. Reader will be Delton Witte. Organist will be Joyce Arneson, and ushers will be Greg Selting and Brent Witte.
