Mary Young Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 1, 2024.
Mary Lou "Meme" Young, née Amos, passed away on June 26, 2024, at the age of 85 in Georgetown, SC. Born in Bassett, VA, she spent the majority of her life as a beacon of generosity and kindness.

Meme was renowned for her giving spirit, often crafting extra items to gift to strangers who admired her work. Her talents in sewing, quilting, and crocheting brought warmth and beauty into the lives of many. Beyond her crafts, she cherished moments spent playing with her great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life.

A devoted wife, she lovingly cared for her husband, Gene S. Young, throughout their 66 years of marriage. She was a nurturing mother to her three daughters, Paula H. Young of Salem, VA, Sandra Y. Trent of Chesapeake, VA, and Cynthia L. Young of Pawleys Island, SC and the "son she never had" Craig L. Trent of Chesapeake, VA. Meme also leaves behind a sister, Edith Martin of Martinsville, VA, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel S. Amos Jones and Paul Amos, stepfather Amos J Jones, sisters Gretchen Miller and Joy Lancaster, and brother Calvin Amos.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Meme's remarkable life. Arrangements are being handled by Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, SC. Meme's legacy of love, craft, and generosity will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
