Marylee Guynn Futernick

Marylee Guynn Futernick May 11, 1924 - July 9, 2012 Marylee passed away peacefully with her family by her side. The cause of death was complications from pneumonia. A third-generation Californian and an expert in Butte County history, Marylee was born and raised in Chico, California. She graduated seventy years ago from Chico High School and, up until a few weeks ago, remained in lively contact with many of her fellow graduates. She studied music for two years at Chico State College and was often featured on the radio as a popular singer. Marylee was married to Joe Futernick, who played shortstop with the San Francisco Seals (Pacific Coast League). In her own right, she was an enthusiastic player of golf, table tennis, badminton and, especially, bridge. For twelve years Marylee worked alongside her husband Joe in the management of Foster and Futernick Book Bindery on Bryant Street in San Francisco. In her later years she delighted in tutoring foreign students at Stanford with the English in Action Program. But above all Marylee is known for having raised four wonderful children: Robert, Gail (deceased), Ken, and Laura. She is survived by five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to attend her memorial service at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, at the Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave., Menlo Park.
