Mason Alexander Herd

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Mason Alexander Herd's passing on October 21st, 2024, at just 25 years old.

Born in Lawrence, Kansas on April 30, 1999, to Rochelle Ann Gomez, Mason was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Cancer at just 18 months old and underwent multiple surgeries and chemotherapy treatments during his early childhood. Displaying a remarkable fighting spirit, Mason, a rambunctious and energetic boy, proudly proclaimed himself a cancer survivor by age 4.

Mason attended Holy Family Catholic School, where he shared classes with two of his cousins, Brandon Wurtz and Makayla Freed, affectionately known by their teachers as "the triplets". In 2017, he graduated from Topeka High School, where he was on the wrestling and football teams and was also an active member of ROTC.

Mason is survived by his mother Rochelle Adams, stepfather Joe Adams, and his partner Seanacee Butchee. He also leaves behind grandparents John Gomez Jr, Loranda & Steve Figgs, and Paula Herd, as well as siblings Karlee Martin (and her children Jaxon, Nadia, and Kyrie), Astin and Autuym Herd. He is additionally remembered by Aunts Elissa (Uncle Al) Wurtz, Julia (Eric) Alexander, Katie (Michael) Figgs, Alexis Sanchez, and Uncle Jared Sanchez, along with several close cousins: Justin (Nena) Hug, Blair Hummer, Jordan (Shelby) Martinez, Jordan (Lincoln) Newby, Brandon (Abigail) Wurtz, Makayla (Jordan) Freed, Aaron (Sloane) Wurtz, Jaiden Gomez-Powell, Freddy McConnell, Miranda Wurtz, and Cameron Alexander.

A celebration of Mason's life will be held November 10th, 3:00 p.m. at Garfield Park Shelter house where friends and family are invited to remember a life that, although short, was truly a gift to us all.
