Matee Rahman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 29, 2025.
Matee Ur Rahman, born on October 15, 1947, in Meerut, India, passed away surrounded by his family on February 3, 2024, in Seminole, Florida.

The fourth of five children, Matee's early life was shaped by his family's move to Pakistan shortly after his birth. There, he developed a passion for photography, swimming, and diving; he also excelled at table tennis, eventually becoming a champion. A dedicated student, Matee graduated top of his class in college and pursued a career as an electrical engineer.

In June of 1973, Matee immigrated to the United States, where he began a new chapter of his life. It was there that he met Lourdes Limonta, who would become the love of his life. The two were married on December 21, 1974, in New Jersey and started a beautiful life together in Michigan, having two children, David and Tracy.

Matee was passionate about his career as an engineer. With the support of his wife, he pursued and earned his master's in electrical engineering from Michigan State University and became a professional engineer. After moving to Seminole, Florida, with his family, Matee worked his way up, retiring as a principal engineer for Progress Energy.

Matee will be remembered for his dedication to his family and his remarkable achievements throughout his life.

I first met Matee as a summer intern in 1990 at Florida Power Corporation in St. Petersburg, Florida. Matee taught me how to perform electrical calculations and many other things that I have used throughout my career. I worked with him from 1990 until 1999. Matee was an excellent engineer, a great colleague, and a good friend.
