Matthew Bardsley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 6 to Jun. 8, 2010.
BARDSLEY , Matthew Stanton We are very sad to let our family and friends know that, after a long and very brave struggle, Matthew Stanton Bardsley passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on June 4, 2010. He was surrounded by his family and some of the outstanding nursing and medical staff who filled this last year with incredible kindness. Matthew was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and was the second oldest of five children. He moved to Canada in order to pursue an education, studying History at the University of Calgary, where he met his wife, Beth Diamond. They married in 1980 and had three sons: Joseph, Matthew and Andrew. Matthew worked for Canadian Pacific Railway for thirty years and he had many long and important friendships from those years. His real focus, though, was his family and he was a generous, kind and constant father to his three sons, and an unfailingly supportive and loving husband. He took great pride in his family and the life and home he created for them. Matthew is survived by and will always be remembered by his wife Beth, and their three sons. He will also be lovingly remembered by his three sisters, Alicia Coogan, Christine Zurowkski and Anne Dooley, all of Rhode Island, and an enormous extended family there, and here in Calgary. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the A.L.S. Society of Alberta (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Suite 400, 320 - 23 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2S 0J2 ( www.alsab.ca ). Beth and the children want to thank their family and friends for the love and support they demonstrated every day of the last difficult year. The family also wants to thank the incredible Unit 94 and ICU nurses, nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, administrators and doctors, especially Dr. Tam, for their compassion, support and constant care. In living memory of Matthew Bardsley, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Dear Beth, Andrew, Matt and Joseph,
Although you have never met me, I am Matthew's cousin from R.I. He and I would see each other at the family gatherings before he moved to Canada.
My brother Norman was born the same year as Matt and they would spend the summer weekends together at the beach.
My sincere condolenses to all of you.
Wish we could have met and lived closer.
Sincerely, Lois Bardsley-Sirois

Dear Beth Joseph Matthew and Andrew
I am deeply saddened by Mathews passing.
Please accept my sincere condolences
I has been a few years now since we have spent any time together enjoying each others company and finding time to laugh about everything and nothing
And now this news comes a shock
This must be a very difficult time for you and the "boys "
But I hope you can support one another through in your grief
And heal the pain of your loss
I will always be there to help and support you
