Matthew Conte Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 15 to Mar. 16, 2023.
Matthew James Conte of Commack, NY died on February 27, 2023 at the age of 36. At the time of his death, Matthew had been out for a run nearby his home when he was struck by a car. Matthew is survived by family and friends including his wife Patricia - whom he married in 2015 - their two daughters, Siena (4) and Natalia (1); his parents Barbara and Steven, and his sister Amanda. Matthew is also missed tremendously by his aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, niece and nephews, childhood and college friends, coworkers, neighbors, and so many more whose lives he touched.

Matthew was a neurosurgical Physicians Assistant at Northwell Hospital in Manhasset and South Shore University Hospital in Bayshore and previously served as a general surgery PA at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. Having been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at a young age, going into the medical field was always extremely important to Matthew as was the ability to give back and help others to overcome. He was a beloved colleague - coworkers frequently citing that his was the operating room they always wanted to be in or remarking on his trademark enormous meals that would take up the entire break room refrigerator.

To those who didn't know Matthew well, he likely seemed like the quiet man in the room - observing others. But to those who knew him best, Matthew had an enormous heart, a personality full of quirks, and a singular sense of humor. Matthew was unapologetically himself, always true to his beliefs and convictions while remaining kind, respectful, and fair. He was compassionate without crumbling, strong without being cold, and dedicated without being obsessive (with the exception of his obsession with fitness).

Matthew loved his family but none more than the one he built with his wife, Patricia. His girls were his world and he worked tirelessly to create an incredible life for them to share - one meant to be filled with milestones, vacations, graduations and so much more. Matthew's and Patricia's love story is one for the ages and not one that will soon be forgotten.

Matthew had many passions in life - he loved going to the gym or for long runs, binge watching shows with Patricia in their home, spending time outside with Siena and Natalia, trips with his parents or his friends. And he loved some of the finer things in life, too - a good cut of steak (cooked 'black and blue'), a nice scotch, fancy cars and watches. All the finer things paled in comparison to his smile when spending time with those he loved most.

Matthew was laid to rest on March 3, 2023 at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood. Donations in his honor can be made to a GoFundMe fundraiser set up to support Patricia, Siena, and Natalia as they navigate life without their beloved husband and papa.
