Friends and family joined together for a service at Mansfield crematorium to celebrate the life of 16-year-old Matthew Thomas Eyley, of Berry Hill Lane, Mansfield.
Born at Mansfield and educated at Berry Hill Primary and Sherwood Hall schools, Matthew enjoyed the first 10 years of his life spending time at the family caravan in Chapel-St-Leonards. From a young age he was an accomplished golfer and shooter and loved fishing, and had recently started training his gun dog, Jack.
Although he became ill in 2003 it was always his wish to work on the land and be a part of the farming community. He helped many young people in difficult times and was praised for doing so, but he thought this should be part of everyone's aim in life.
Matthew, who died at the children's cancer ward E38 at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, leaves his parents, Martyn and Andrea Eyley, grandparents Fred and Joan Kirk, his aunt, Janine Kirk, and his dogs, Dollar and Jack.
