Matthew Garon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 15, 2025.
Matthew H. Garon, "Matt" as he preferred to be called (except by his mother), beloved son, brother, father, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 26th, 2025 at the age of 45. Born and raised in Methuen, Massachusetts, he is survived by his daughter Evelyn M. Garon, his parents Cheryl A. and Michael J. Garon, brother Michael J. Garon II and his wife Dionne, and sister Melissa J. Garon. He was a fun and loving, never-say-no uncle to niece Olivia J. Garon and nephew Michael "James" Garon III. He is also survived by his uncle Ken and aunt Pat Perron who are also his beloved Godparents, his aunts Eileen Pellegrino, Patricia Perron and Roberta Garon. He is also survived by his fiancée, Taneka Colon.

Those who knew Matt also knew his journey wasn't without its struggles. He was open about the trials of addiction and his ongoing battle to overcome it. His memoir stands as a testament to his resilience and determination to maintain his sobriety. Despite the many setbacks, Matt never stopped fighting, supported by the unwavering love of his family. There was so much more to Matt than his struggles, so much good.

Matt was a true animal lover, bringing home many strays over the years, much to his parents' chagrin, and more recently having a plethora of pets and becoming a breeder of silver labs. There was no animal unlovable.

Matt was ever the athlete with a competitive spirit, though he was not gracious at losing, no matter how trivial the game. He excelled at hockey and baseball throughout his youth, the latter continuing into adulthood, but found his real passion in the culinary arts.

Matt has been the executive chef at numerous restaurants in multiple countries across the world, curating their menus with his talent for fusion cuisine. He was a mentor to many young chefs finding their way. His knack for languages proved an asset as his excelling career kept him moving from country to country, the ideal life for Matt, never wanting to stay in one place too long.

Matt will be deeply and painfully missed, but his memory will live on, in every card game of 45s, every gift of socks at Christmas, every animal loved and taken in, and the moments he shared with family and friends near and far.

Services for Matt will be held on Saturday May 24th, 2025 at 11:00AM at St. Monica Church, 212 Lawrence St. in Methuen, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to MSPCA in his honor.

Matt and I worked together at Prelude in Methuen. We also were workout partners for awhile at Latitude in Methuen ( now Choice Elite Fitness). He was a great guy with a dry witty sense of humor. We stayed in touch speaking even once in awhile. I am saddened by his passing.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone. This is a big loss. I will sorely miss Matt´s heartfelt-warm embraces at family cookouts. It didn´t matter how long it had been since we had seen each other or the fact that we were not cousins by blood, his welcoming smile and embrace said it all; we were family. I love you now and always.
