Matthew Stephen Shugart, 51, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in Breckenridge, Colorado. He was the fiance of Susan Chapa. They shared two "pandemic" years of their relationship together, were getting engaged this February, and were connected at the hip. Born in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of Steve Shugart and Vicki Aznaran, and was raised by his "Auntie" (pronounced Hay-nee) Jill Shugart. He attended Texas A&M University and received a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance. He loved playing intramural sports in college. Matt was employed at several banks throughout his career and worked as a commercial banker for 25+ years. Matt was a Christian. He enjoyed many different hobbies. To name a few, he loved working out, traveling with his family, golfing, hiking, snowboarding and skiing, exploring the outdoors, watching and coaching sports, marathon running, shopping with his girls, and listening and dancing to country music. Matt was an avid sports guy who could remember details and stats from so many different sports. Matt will be remembered as a loving father, great friend, coach and son. He was grumpy, happy, sarcastic, and hilarious all in one. His character, his wit, and his love for the ones he was close to are the reasons he meant the world to us. He pulled for the underdog, worked hard at his job, and lived his life with a smile on his face. Those who loved him will miss him immeasurably. Matt is survived by his fianceé, Susan Chapa of Garland, Texas; daughters, Ashtyn & Peyton Shugart; parents, Jill Shugart and Vicki & Richard Aznaran; cousins, Bob & Debbie Shugart, Lisa Shugart-Ballard & Ken Ballard, Lori Shugart, and Scott, Drew, Blake, and Brad Dunavant. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Steve Shugart; and grandparents, Allie Merle Shugart "Ma" and Evelyn & Jack McRae. The memorial service will be held on January 22, 2022 at 12 pm with a celebration of life to follow. The service will take place at the Charles W. Smith Funeral Home in Sachse, Texas. We hope that you can join us for one or both of these events if you are able. More details on the celebration of life will be announced during the memorial service Link for the live stream of service https://www.youtube.com/user/SpecialWebsVideos/videos

Hands down, one of my favorite and most memorable students. Gone much too soon. With Matt and Ma together again, heaven is rolling with laughter and pranks. The world has lost a gem.
