He was born March 1, 1986, in Miami, Fla., to Bobby D. and Nichole M. (Donnelly) Zimney. He was reared and educated in Owasso, Okla., and graduated with the Owasso High School Class of 2005. He completed his education attending Oklahoma State University, where he earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science. He spent most of his working life as an equipment operator, most recently with Skylight Dirt Works. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Owasso.
He enjoyed a variety of pastimes including hunting, fishing, bonfires and being outdoors. He liked working with his hands and had a passion for mechanics. He also enjoyed law enforcement work and listening to the police scanner. He was a fan of watching John Wayne movies and country music.
Loving family members include his parents, Bob and Nikki Zimney of Owasso; brother, Travis Zimney of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Ilsa Blaney of Fairfax, Va.; brother; Craig Patton of Dallas, Texas; aunt, Shelley Mitchell of Miami, Fla.; aunt, Joan Ochoa of Miami, Fla.; uncle, Paul Donnelly of Miami, Fla.; aunt, Sheryl Arneson of Aberdeen, S.D.; uncle, Barry Zimney of Rapid City, S.D.; uncle, Rick Zimney of Papillion, Neb.; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A vigil service was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, and Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at St. Henry Catholic Church, with Father Richard Bradley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Concerns of Police Survivors Inc. (COPS) in Memory of Matthew T. “Matt” Zimney, P.O. Box 3199, Camdenton, MO 65020, www.nationalcops.org
Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso (www.mowery fs.com).
