Upon becoming involved in Hockley County politics in the early 90's, Mattie Belle Bartlett quickly became one of my first friends and advisors. I will never forget her loving care and hard work as a person who cared so very much for her Country, State, County and fellow humans. Like so many of her generation, she was part of a "splendid people," enduring and active in seeing us all through happiness and hardships. My deep respect to one that made the world a better place.
