Mattie Ellen May, 96, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2011. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Mount Olivet Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Edge Park United Methodist Church, 5616 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76134. Mattie was born March 31, 1914, in Goldthwaite to John Lee Kight and Dixie Edmondson Kight. Her father died during the flu epidemic of January 1919, leaving her mother with three young children to work a small Mills County farm. Mattie continued this relationship with her mother after becoming a single mother herself with three small children until her mother Dixie passed away in 1970. Mattie was a longtime member of Edge Park United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Kight and Dixie Franklin; brother, J.D. Kight; sister, Lydia Tyler; son, Billy May; and daughter-in-law, Vergie May. Survivors: Sons, John May, Bobby May and wife, Shelia; daughters, Sharon Katzman and husband, Rob, Angela Saunders and husband, Craig; 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
