OBITUARY SISTER MAUDE ELLIOTT, RSCJ Born in Montreal in 1913, Sister Elliott died in Barat Residence, 1455 Summer St., Halifax, on Saturday, December 23, 2006. She was the daughter of the late Walter Elliott and Mary (Lappin) Elliott. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Rev. Fred Elliott, S.J., Walter, and sisters Viola Rutter and Iona Hashey. She will be missed by nieces Carol Ann Rutter, Maureen Rocchio and nephews Allan Rutter, Barry Elliott. Sister Elliott entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1934 in Albany, N.Y. and made her final profession there in 1943. She was educated in Montreal and received her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Montreal. She furthered her studies at the Master's level in Religious Studies at Providence College (Rhode Island) and received a Bachelor of Library Science at the University of British Columbia. Her teaching career spanned a period of over 60 years. She taught in the Sacred Heart Schools in Montreal, Halifax, Winnipeg and Vancouver. In Montreal she was associated with the Thomas More Institute as a leader and with E.N.C.O.R.E. During her long religious life as an educator, she was loved and respected by her colleagues and many students. Sister Elliott retired to Barat Residence in 1999. She will be very much missed by her community and the staff who provided such loving care. The Liturgy of the Resurrection took place in Barat Residence on Wednesday, December 27, 2006.
