Maurice Robert "Red" McCarthy, aged 84, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on July 5, 2024. Born in Kearny, New Jersey, he spent his early education at Saint Stevens Catholic School and Kearny High School. Red dedicated 25 years to McLean Trucking Company before continuing his career at Sarasota Herald Tribune in newspaper advertising until his retirement in 1995.

Red was deeply involved in his community, serving as a Cub Scout Leader, and coaching little league and soccer in Old Bridge, NJ. His commitment to youth extended to volunteering at Brentwood Elementary and McIntosh Middle Schools after moving to Sarasota in 1985. An avid sports fan, he passionately supported the New York Mets and Giants. Red also enjoyed taking scenic drives and dining out with his wife, Karen.

He was a devout member of Incarnation Catholic Church in Sarasota, where he and Karen participated in the Folk Music Group, enriching their community with music and fellowship.

Red is survived by his wife, Karen McCarthy; daughter, Donna Burke (husband Michael); sons, Robert, Brian (wife Jill), and Sean McCarthy; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Travis Glad.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 9:00 am, at Incarnation Catholic Church, in Sarasota, Florida. The family is being assisted by AM Cremations, Palmetto, FL, and invites all who knew Red to remember his vibrant spirit and enduring kindness.

I just found out that Maurice had passed. We go back along way to Kearny NJ. I remember two kids taking the bus to NYC and then the subway to the Bronx to see the Yankees play. Box seat tickets were provided by Maurice“s father on more than one occasion. Maurice was my best man when I got married in 1960.
