Maurice Griffith Nolte

Maury Nolte died in Colorado Springs on October 16, 2016, surrounded by his wife and daughter. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Maurice and Vivian (Jacobs) Nolte and graduated from Northeast High School in 1951. He served in the Army for 2 years at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. In 1957 he married Sylvia Poe, whom he had met on a New Year's Eve blind date arranged by a mutual friend. In 1961 he earned a BA in Business Administration from the University of Missouri at Columbia. He worked for the US Department of Labor as a Wage and Hour Compliance Officer for 27 years in both Columbia and Colorado Springs. In Columbia, he was a deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church, and later served as an usher at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs. He enjoyed building radios and record players and was always interested in the latest gadgets. Camping was another favorite activity, and the family camped all over the western United States and Canada and visited many National Parks. He and Sylvia also enjoyed cruising to Alaska, Mexico, and Europe.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Barry, and his son, Kurt. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Nolte, his daughter, Baya Clare, his sister, Kathleen Raysik and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial will be held on Thursday, October 20 from 2-4 pm at Swan-Law Funeral Home 501 N Cascade in Colorado Springs.
