Beth Burright
January 12, 2012
My name is Beth Burright. When Dr. Perll knew me my name was Beth Shumate. When I was nine years old I had a bad bike wreck. Dr. Perll came to the Warrensburg Medical Center (where I lived) and told me I needed surgery. He looked very much like the picture in the paper. I had a big crush on him as I thought him to be so handsome! The surgery was at St. Mary's, and I was there a week. He was so kind to me. I was a scared little girl facing a big surgery and two large scars on my leg. He assured me that my dresses would always cover them. (Little did we know that mini skirts would be the dress code when I was a teen.) The scar on my knee is in the shape of a big smile. On my last appointment with Dr. Perll I drew two eyes above the scar so when he uncovered my knee to examine it there was a smiley face. I remember how he laughed! He expertly advised my parents not to tell me about the wires in my knee so I would not favor it. It was many years later when I found that out. So, here I am 51 years later at the age of 60 skiing, biking, running, hiking on that knee he so expertly fixed. I plan on doing my third sprint triathlon this summer. I just wanted you to know that he was very important in the life of a little nine-year-old and has been fondly thougt of over the last 51 years. My condolences to the family.

I am grateful for the life of Dr. Perll. Thanks to his service and to the service of others in our armed forces, my family and I have been able to lead our lives in freedom and peace.
