Maxine Platt Dahl Obituary

Published by The Chronicle on Aug. 21, 2009.
Maxine Anna Platt Dahl, 87, died August 10, 2009, in Napa, CA.
Maxine was born to William and Anna Platt on December 8, l921, in Tacoma, Washington. She spent her childhood there, graduated from Lincoln High School in l941, and Buetel Business School in l942. Until her marriage to Randall Dahl in l945, she worked in the business office of the Tacoma Ship Yards, enjoying the international atmosphere.
She and Randall had three daughters: Rannell Dahl (Olav Lejnieks), Napa, CA, Carolyn Dahl Hackett ( Michael), Angwin, CA, and Luann Dahl, Santa Rosa, CA.
In l956 the family moved to Chehalis, Washington, where Maxine enjoyed her love of being a mother and homemaker. She was very creative, had an outstanding talent for line, design, and color .This was apparent in her sewing skills, home, gardens, and every endeavor that she attempted. She loved learning and had particular fascination with the universe, astronomy, science, spirituality, and philosophy.
In l964 she became a single mother and returned to the work force. In l968 she began work at the Lewis County Auditors office, a job she loved until her retirement after 21 years. During these years, she was very active in the Chehalis Methodist Church, The American Cancer Society (volunteer of the year, 2002), and the Literacy Program of Lewis County.
She moved to California to be with her daughters in 2002. She loved the beauty of the Napa Valley and always exclaimed at the beautiful blue, cloudless skies, the warm weather, and the thousands of acres of grape vines. She continued to do volunteer work, and loved her work at the local thrift shop. She was active academically and artistically with a retired citizens group called Creative Living. .
She leaves behind her dear sister, Virginia Theno, of Puyallup, Washington, her life long friend, confidant, and support through life. She was extremely close to Virginia's children, Her brother, Donald Platt, died in September, 2008. She had three grandchildren, Ryan Hackett, Allison Hackett, and Franklin Rones, and two great-grandchildren, Bradlie Hackett and Morgann Hackett.
A memorial service was held in Angwin, California, on August, 16, 2009. For anyone wishing to donate a remembrance of Maxine, The American Cancer Society was an organization near and dear to her heart.
