Maxine Woods Madisonville - Maxine Wade Woods, 88, of Madisonville, Tennessee, passed away on June 17, 2023. She was born February 15, 1935 to Lenore and Lois Stamey Wade.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Rev. Curtis E. Woods, Sr. She is survived by her children, Curtis Edwards Woods, Jr. (Ed) and his wife Linda, of Greensboro, NC, Michael Anthony Woods (Tony) and his wife Tag, of Jamestown, NC, and Kristina Woods Brown, husband Jeff, and her beloved grandson, Reid Brown, of Murfreesboro, TN. She is also survived by her sisters Kathleen Wade Dalton of Tellico Plains, TN, and Omega Wade Hundley, of Devine, TX, and a brother.

Maxine was a 1953 graduate of Madisonville High School. She started her career in Athens, TN as a beautician in Betty's beauty shop after attending Knoxville Beauty School. It was in Athens that she met Curtis, and they married four months later. They raised two boys before Curtis accepted the call to the ministry. They moved to Donelson, Celina, and finally to Springfield, TN while Curtis attended Belmont University. During that time, their daughter was born. Maxine worked as the executive secretary for the Superintendent of Schools for Robertson County until they moved to North Carolina for Curtis to go to seminary. She proofed and typed every paper Curtis submitted in school. Maxine also worked at a nursing home, managed a hospital credit union, sewed ties for Curtis to sell to seminary students, and cut hair to help support the family. In Greensboro, NC, Maxine served as the church secretary for Clifton Road Baptist Church.

Maxine was a painter, gardener, and a magnificent cook. She fed hundreds of folks in the churches and communities they served. She taught the Faith Builders Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Madisonville for many years.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 21 at First Baptist Church, Madisonville, Tennessee from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed immediately by the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Dr. Lon Shoopman. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens. Biereley-Hale Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Reid Brown, Bryce Bowers, Jarrod Brackett, Bryan Hall, Wallace Graham, Raymond Tyler, and the deacons of First Baptist Church, Madisonville.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Maxine's cousins, Reed and Raymond Stamey.

The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Beckman for his unwavering kindness and exceptional care.

To Ed, Tony, Kristy and spouses, and Reid, I want to extend my deepest sympathy and love. I was so lucky to have Maxine as my sister. I have loved her all my 84 years and will love her through eternity.
