Friedens - Megan Ann Evans, 77, of Friedens, passed away on Thursday Nov. 13, 2025. She was born on July 28, 1948, to George and Alice Evans. She graduated from Keystone Oaks High School in 1966 as a straight-A student and a member of the National Honor Society. She earned her bachelor's degree from West Virginia University in 1970 and prided herself on having earned her MSW from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002, at age 52. Throughout her career in social services, she worked as a case worker for the Department of Welfare, was a licensed social worker for the foster care program at the Children's Aide Home of Somerset County and retired as the ACCESS/Mental Health Coordinator for IU08. She was passionate about family, community, work, and learning. She was the first born and role model to her two siblings. She felt her skills acquired in Girl Scouts and her role as a big sister, were her foundation to shine as an amazing mother not only to her own children, but as a caring mother-figure to many more. She was an amazing cook, loved to bake, was a pie aficionado, an avid gardener, fond of canning, and always had a knack for sewing. She knew how to make a house a home. Her adoration for her community was always present, as she was a favored member of the Unity United Church of Christ, where she was an active member of the church care committee, a deacon, and was a past president of consistory. She volunteered her time at Camp Living Waters, was actively involved with the Berlin Area Historical Society and looked forward to giving tours at the Glade One-Room Schoolhouse. She also served as the secretary for the Stonycreek Township Auditors. She always made a point to give back to others and lived by the mantra "kindness matters." Megan was an avid reader, historian, greatly enjoyed genealogical research, could fix just about anything, loved to travel, enjoyed collecting antiques, always had the best Christmas trees, was a good listener, lesson-giver, honesty enforcer, Good Fairy, Tooth Fairy, wonderful friend, caring neighbor to the Amish, sit-down helper, optimist, and survivor till the end. She taught us all so much. Loving mother of Sara Glessner of Pittsburgh, PA, Christopher Glessner of Mt. Lebanon, PA, and Andrew Glessner of Cleveland, OH. Devoted foster mother of Joan Bickham of Oakley, CA, and Tracey Blake of Verona, PA. Blessed host mother to exchange students Mako Furushima of Chigasaki, Japan and Mana Chunsuttiwat of Nonthaburi, Thailand. Mother-in-law of Elane Glessner and Heather Glessner. Beloved sister of Susan Evans of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Ric Evans of Manteo, NC. Sister-in-law to Philip Morgan and Faye Evans. Grandmother to Jake, Adriana, Calvin, Ava, Evan, Eli, Hope, Joshua, and Zachary, and a Great-gammy to Samaya. Loving Aunt to Will, Sam, Michael, Lauren, and Luke. A memorial service will be held to honor her life on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Unity United Church of Christ 2074 Huckleberry Hwy Berlin, PA 15530.
