Melissa Bullock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 7 to Sep. 8, 2010.
Melissa Jeane Bullock passed away on Sept 6, 2010 at Hospice, Branford, CT after a very lengthy illness. She was born on December 30, 1971 in New Haven, CT. Melissa graduated from Guilford High School in 1990 where she was an outstanding basketball and volleyball player and scholar. Melissa had a wonderful sense of humor. She was the first one to laugh at a joke. She never felt sorry for herself and took great joy in enriching the lives of others. During her illness Melissa worked in floral design and at Fleishmen's Clothing Store. She took great pride in her work and was highly regarded for her accomplishments and exceptional work ethic. Melissa also volunteered at the Guilford Community Center and St. Raphael's Hospital. Melissa had many interests and talents. She loved to travel, spend time with her family and take care of her pets. She was a gifted artist who was a master cross stitcher and an intricate basket maker and weaver. You could see Melissa's soul in every piece that she did. She is survived by her parents Suzanne Bullock, Guilford, CT and Marshall (Rhonda) Bullock, Raymond, ME; her brother and wife, Corey and Kristin Bullock, Old Lyme, CT; a nephew Jackson Bullock; a niece, Reagan Bullock, and Aunt and niece, Elaine and Joanie Weirzbicki, New Britain, CT. She had many cousins and lots of friends. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford, on September 10, 2010 at 2pm. Dear Sue, Corey and Kristen,
I am so sorry for your (and all of our) loss.

It is hard to believe that twenty years have gone by since high school graduation when talking and laughing with Melissa was a part of my daily routine. And while our talks grew less regular as the years went on and life got more complicated, our occassional conversations always left me grateful to have such a caring and loving friend. As important, I always left determined to better myself, inspired by how Melissa handled life's challenges with such grace, dignity and class.

With constant facebook updates you sometimes forget what an impact a person can have on your life even if you don't regularly see them. Melissa's passing reinforces how special those relationships are and how lucky I was to call her a friend.

Rest in peace Melissa. You are already missed.

Like so many others posting here, I went to high school with Melissa, and though I have not seen her in some time, think of her often. She was a kind, funny, talented, smart, inspiring person who laughed easily and enjoyed spreading that cheer to others, no matter what was going on in her own life. Though I have not seen her in a long time, she will still be missed.

May the time come soon when she is remembered with more laughter than tears, and may she be laughing in heaven.

Peace,

There are no words to express how lost we all feel right now after hearing about Melissa’s last battle and her flight home to heaven. Though many of us have not seen Melissa in many years, the memories come flooding back to that beautiful smile, beautiful blue eyes and wonderful sense of humor.
Melissa touched everyone person she met and in some magical way entered their heart. I know when I first met this wonderful young lady she was in school with Jennifer, playing the flute in the band, working on various girl scout projects and celebrating many birthdays and other occasions. Melissa was the “care-taker” of Betsy’s rabbits, when we could not have them at our condo – Because of Melissa, we gave each other “cheese” names, but she will ALWAYS BE THE BIG CHEESE.
Melissa will never know how many people she touched, how many people loved her or just how grateful we were to walk this earth with her for 38 years. I may not have seen her for years, but when we met, and she remembered how I was, there was always a hug that made you feel like you were the most important person on earth.
When my mom passed away in 1990 of brain cancer, ironically diagnosed just months after Melissa was first sick, Melissa came to me and hugged me and told me that I had my own star watching me always – now we all have another star that will shine brighter than all the others, and her name is Melissa.
Stephen Schwartz wrote a song for his musical Wicked and the final words to the song For Good, explain it all so clearly; “Who can say if I’ve been changed forever? I do believe I have been changed for the better. And because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” Rest well dear Melissa.
Suzanne, no child could have asked for a better mother and friend – All my love, Katie
