1930-2016
CHAVEZ, IRENE ASTORGA, 1930-2016, passed away at the age of 86 on July 26, 2016. Preceded in death by her husband Rudolph Chavez, Sr. Survived by her children, Diana Chavez, Rachel Santamaria, Rudolph Chavez, Jr. (Glenda), Steven Chavez, Sylvia Hernandez, Gabriel Chavez (Yolanda) and Irene Bernal. 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, sisters Lola Astorga Flores and Pauline Astorga Torres. Visitation will be on Thursday - August 4, 2016 from 4 P.M. - 8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday - August 5, 2016 in the chapel of Cavazos Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Houston National Cemetery.

My mom was a next door neighbor to the Chavez family for over 45 years. When visiting mom, I'd often see Irene in her front yard and she'd always greet me with a wave and a warm smile. We'd chat back and forth over the front yard fence. She was a busy lady with her home and family duties but always took time to say hello and talk to me. My memories of our conversations will always be special. God bless Irene on her new journey and God bless her family as their sorrow heals. Rest in peace Irene.
