Melissa Hatch Obituary

Melissa Kristine Hatch

Hatch Melissa Kristine Hatch (Kristen to many of her friends) was born October 4, 1983 in American Fork, Utah, and lived in Carrolton, Texas, Naperville, Illinois, Mission Viejo, California, and Wilton, Connecticut before returning to Provo. She loved the East, and always considered Wilton to be her home having lived there for over half of her life. She died June 20, 2006 in her family's mountain home in Timberlakes.
She was the oldest daughter of David Darrell and Kristine Thayne Hatch. Just prior to her death, she was a student at Utah Valley State College where she was studying Public Relations.
Kristen had a passion for music and dance. As a young child, she attended many Broadway musicals, and then spent hours with her mother at the piano, while she sang and danced, leaning the lyrics by heart. She brightened our home with her singing, dancing, and playing the piano. She was a gifted writer and especially loved poetry. She won several essay contests in her schools in Connecticut, and she sold her first magazine article when she was thirteen years old.
Kristen loved to travel and see the world. She loved meeting new people and seeing the world with her family, always learning what she could of their language and culture.
Kristen was a very compassionate and caring person. When she was thirteen, she decided on her own that she wanted to volunteer at a rest home. Kristen was the oldest daughter and granddaughter of a large family. She loved playing with and taking care of her cousins, and being the big sister to them.
Kristen loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even as a young girl she would get up early to sneak into the early morning seminary classes taught by her father in her home. She had a strong testimony of the divinity of Christ, which strengthened her during times of sadness and despair.
We are so grateful Kristen is not alone where she is now. Her grandmothers and great grandmothers are there to comfort and guide her in the next phase of her life. She is survived by her parents, and siblings, Ryan 24, Brandon 17, Bryce 15, Donna 12, Caroline 10, and Tanner 7, many cousins, aunts and uncles, and by her Grandpa, Gordon Earl Thayne.
Funeral services are at 1:00 PM Monday, June 26th at the Rock Canyon Ward, 3050 Mojave Lane in Provo Utah. There will be a viewing between 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah. Her body will interred at the Orem City Cemetery.
